Born in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture

During my post-graduation trip to Egypt, I encountered traditional lamps in a small workshop. Captivated by the beauty created by intricate carvings and the interplay of light and shadow, I awakened to the power of "shaping space through light."

Afterward, I continued traveling through North America, Eurasia, and Central and South America, immersing myself in diverse cultures and traditions. The colors of each land, architecture utilizing natural materials, artisan craftsmanship—countless moments of inspiration accumulated in my heart.

I wanted to express these memories through my own unique language of "pattern." A desire emerged to create works that quietly speak to people's hearts through stories woven from light and shadow.

After returning to Japan, I moved to Hokkaido and began crafting gourd lamps in earnest. Growing African-origin gourds in Hokkaido's climate proved more challenging than expected, but through trial and error, I gradually established cultivation methods suited to this land.

I harvest gourds grown from seed, dry them, and face each one individually. While envisioning designs that emerge in my mind, I carefully carve them one by one. Beautiful landscapes encountered around the world, people I met in those places—for example, leaf veins of plants seen in Thai jungles, soft light streaming from ancient temple ceilings, geometric patterns of Peruvian traditional costumes. All of these are carved onto the gourd's surface, and together with travel memories, they are reborn as a single work.

When light illuminates a completed lamp, travel memories resurface. Emotions felt in distant lands spread through space as light and shadow.

Today, I continue creating soul-infused gourd lamps while treasuring travel inspirations. Gourds growing in Hokkaido's pure air merge with memories of cultures and nature encountered worldwide, giving birth to truly one-of-a-kind pieces.
